Darwin Festival was delighted to receive the Major Festivals & Events Brolga Award for the 2018 Darwin Festival at the 2019 Northern Territory Tourism Awards (Brolga Awards) held at Alice Springs Convention Centre on Saturday 16 November.
Facilitated by the Northern Territory Government’s tourism body, Tourism NT, the Brolga Awards celebrates tourism excellence.
The 2018 Festival was the most successful Darwin Festival on record at the culmination of its season. The 2018 program featured 703 artists in 228 events, with a record-breaking 105,178 attendances and 44,191 tickets sold.
A national campaign invited southerners to escape grey winter days for tropical winter nights, resulting in 4% growth in interstate and international visitation.
One in five visitors originated from beyond the Territory, generating $6.7million in direct visitor expenditure and 29,000 bed nights.
Of the win, Darwin Festival Chief Executive Officer Emily Mann said, “Excited is an understatement.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and focus of our fantastic staff, board, volunteers and partners. Together, we set the bar higher each year, with our sights firmly set on strategically positioning Australia’s leading tropical winter arts Festival at the forefront of national and international audiences to drive visitation to the Northern Territory.”
Darwin Festival, together with other 2019 Brolga Awards winners, will represent the Northern Territory at the Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Canberra on Friday 6 March 2020.
