YOUR FIRST LOOK AT DARWIN FESTIVAL 2024 – INTRODUCING THE AMPHITHEATRE SERIES!

Crowd-favourite outdoor venue – the Darwin Amphitheatre in the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens – is back for the opening week of the 2024 festival with three huge shows!

Artistic Director Kate Fell said: “The Darwin Amphitheatre is one of the city’s most popular and loved venues, and such a wonderful, open space to showcase these exciting major music events. We are so thrilled to be able to present these acts on opening weekend, in such a perfect location. The Amphitheatre has it all – picnic-style seating under starry night skies, brilliant acoustics, plenty of room to dance, and lush tropical gardens.”

The Darwin Amphitheatre Series includes:

Ilbijerri Theatre Company’s Big Name, No Blankets. This epic rock’n’roll theatre show, proudly supported by Charles Darwin University, tells the story of Oz music icons Warumpi Band, who made history as the first rock ‘n’ roll band to sing in Aboriginal language. Feel the thrill of a live concert as you rock out to Blak anthems like ‘Jailanguru Pakurnu’, ‘My Island Home’ and the legendary ‘Blackfella/Whitefella’. Packed with iconic songs, rockstar performances and humour, Big Name, No Blankets is an uplifting show about how music can influence massive change.

National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs). This year, the annual star-studded awards event looks back at 20 deadly years of Indigenous music on opening weekend. Held on the traditional lands of the Larrakia people, the NIMAs inspire everyone to celebrate the rich diversity of Indigenous music from across the country – from emerging talents to international sensations like Gurrumul and Jessica Mauboy.

Missy Higgins, The Second Act. Without a doubt one of Australia’s beloved singer/songwriters, Missy Higgins will round out opening weekend celebrating one of biggest and most influential albums in the country’s history: The Sound Of White. Joined by her full band, Missy will play the album in its entirety for this special event, as well as a host of her other hits and some brand-new songs. She’ll also be supported by Darwin’s alt-folk and country singer Sally Balfour and the angelic voice of Australian Idol contestant and Darwin Local, Prayer Corby.

Tickets for the Darwin Amphitheatre Series are on sale now. This is just the beginning, our full program will be announced Wednesday 29 May. We can’t wait to share it with you!
