Presented by SALON Art Projects in association with Darwin Festival and Arafura Music Collective
Arafura Music Collective presents a unique musical experience to enhance Birds from Here, an exhibition showcasing the rich birdlife of the Northern Territory through the eyes of Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists.
Each performance is both intentional and opportunistic as the environment contributes to the sensory experience of visual art and music. Beginning with a Larrakia Welcome to Country and a musical meditation grounding us in Garramilla/Darwin, music and stories interweave to connect you to the people, place and environment and the diverse cultures of Darwin.
Hear music from Bach through to the Beatles alongside works from local composer Francis Diatschenko that honours the stories of Larrakia and the many communities who make up our multicultural community. This sonic adventure invites you to be immersed in the wonderful experience of acoustic music outdoors. Feel the breeze waft over you, hear the birdsong around you, smell the scents of the earth, trees and frangipani flowers. Before or after the performance wander the Coconut Lawns and immerse yourself in images of birds from across the NT. Bring chairs, rugs, yoga mats, kids, the whole family and take some time to simply rest and listen.
