RAY DIMAKARRI DIXON
Standing Strong Album Launch
Appearing on Power and Water Bamboo Bandstand
More InfoStanding Strong is the free concert celebration of the stunning first solo album from singer/songwriter and Mudburra man Ray Dimakarri Dixon, whose storytelling began around campfires and has since spread, firing hearts and minds throughout the world.
Produced by international theatre firebrands Finucane & Smith and recorded in Melbourne in collaboration with over 20 multi-award-winning artists including Joe Camilleri, Shinjuku Thief, Clare St Clare, Mama Alto, John McAll, Standing Strong is a poignant plea to fight to protect the future of the land and the future of all of our children.
Ray Dimakarri Dixon, a proud leader in Australia’s Indigenous music scene, grew up singing in one of the world’s oldest languages, Mudburra, now only spoken by 50 people. Originally a member of 80’s legends Kulimindini Band, in 2012 Ray joined with his daughter Eleanor to form Rayella – a family music group singing in Mudburra and English – and won national and international acclaim. For this launch concert he brings his haunting powerful stories of water, fracking, and nkgurramarla from remote Marlinja to the Power and Water Bamboo Bandstand joined by luminous indie pop star Sophie Koh, transcendent beyond gender countertenor diva Mama Alto, composer and pianist Rachel Lewindon.
